Stay Busy Or Begin Rusting

Somebody famous once said that we don’t stop playing because we get older but rather, we get older because we stop playing. This can be carried over to the need for most people to stay busy on either a physical or mental level, for the most part. Sitting around and brooding about regrets just illustrates the fact that it’s better to stay busy or begin rusting, for most people.

This means that the deterioration, while actually not purely like ‘rusting’, can indeed be true deterioration and brought about by oxidative damage that increases as people become more sedentary. Those who do the things necessary to engage their bodies and their minds often live more enjoyable lives and our truly motivating to those who are around them. It’s not too difficult to conceive, actually.

One good way to do so is to think about all the different ways that exist to make money online in a legal and legitimate fashion. Maybe one can start a blog about something that one has a passion with, or one can actually start a real and definable Internet business. Whatever it is, it’s sure to keep even a retiree in his 70s or 80s active and at least mentally fit.

Much of what’s being discussed is more about getting people to understand that staying nimble and on their feet, both figuratively and literally, will do more for them than any amount of Botox or some other plastic surgery alternative could do. Sure, people need to rest, but moving as if somebody’s behind you trying to catch you can be a good way to go through life, not sitting on the porch ending up like a sun-dried raisin.

A very effective method for staying mentally fit — occasionally — it is to pick up a musical instrument and learn to play it. Go to the music store and check out, for example, a nice Alvarez acoustic guitar. It certainly will fit well in the hands and it’s bound to deliver hours of enjoyment after one learns to pluck out a few chords, which is easy enough to do, in truth.

Another useful activity to do on occasion is to just plain get the house uncluttered and free of junk. Maybe that old black helmet, that once belonged to an equally black motorcycle which was sold off long ago, can be stored away, thrown away or sold off. Certainly, leaving it laying under the dining room table for yet another decade isn’t the way to go.

It’s important for people to understand that physical and mental activity — if carried out regularly — can help one live a very long and productive life. Don’t think that chronological age should be an impediment to doing much of anything anymore. Avoid the rocking chair on the porch whenever possible, especially if that rocking chair is calling out for a decades-long stay.
